Local Board Member Admits Defeat Trying to Protect Members from NYCE PPO Deceptive Practices

Our Public Relations Officer was successfully able to get NYCE PPO to pay FDNY in full for a 911 call which required an ambulance transportation to a hospital with a life-threatening illness.

NYCE PPO declared that FDNY ambulance was out of Network and left him with a nearly $900 bill.

But the board member's success is not (y)our success.  The board member tried in vain to resolve the issue at large so that our members do not have to go through the same outrageous appeal process (emergency medical transport bills that are not the responsibility of the insured) but was rebuffed and or ignored by:

-Renee Campion the Commissioner of the New York City Office of Labor Relations (crickets)

-MTA Office of the Inspector General (forwarded to BSC who did in fact already help)

and finally

-NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli via the Department of Financial Services - Who said we are "Self Funded"

So there is no accountability and essentially each member has to fight for themselves to make sure they are not being incorrectly billed by NYCE PPO.

As a reminder the Board Member:

-Chatted with NYCE PPO Virtual Agents and has transcripts

-Filled two electronic appeals and had to send two postal mailing appeals because NYCE PPO lost the first postal mailing (which had a delivery confirmation)

Only after the BSC intervened and NYCE PPO engaged their dispute resolution service it was stated the board member owed $3 (which was subsequently cancelled as well).

Even though NYCE PPO said the board member's appeal was accepted...NYCE PPO never paid FDNY until after a dispute resolution.

Being self funded sounds like being a stockholder of a company where when the stock price goes down the stockholders sue the company and are essentially suing themselves.

Our members should not experience the same distress our Board member did by filing appeals and dispute resolution for no fee services we are entitled to.

Next time he might call an Uber instead of an ambulance.

The local will make a good faith attempt to help our members navigate this twisted insurance program when help is needed.
