47th AFSCME International Convention - Nominations / Election

To All DC 37 Local 3652 Members, 

This is to inform you that the 47th AFSCME International Convention will be held August 17-21, 2026 in Chicago, Illinois.

There will be a meeting with all DC 37 - AFSCME Delegates and Alternate Delegates scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel. All Delegates and Alternate Delegates are expected to attend.

The AFSCME reception will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the McCormick Place Convention Center. There will be buses available from the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel to the Convention Center.

This Local Union will be sending Delegates to the Convention and will reimburse all expenses  (room, board, travel) to the participants 

Per our constitution, Delegates to the AFSCME convention must be selected by the membership via a secret ballot election. Union Local 3652 

members in good standing for at least one year are welcome to participate in this election. 

A Nomination/Election meeting will be held via Zoom on June 18th, 2026, at 6:00 pm. Candidates can nominate themselves or any qualified member. 

An election committee will be appointed to coordinate the election. Please note that elected delegates must use their annual leave (personal vacation time) to attend the convention. 

The AFSCME Convention is held every two years and consists of thousands of members and retirees elected by their respective locals and respective councils from across the country. The convention is the highest governing body of our union, delegates nominated according to the AFSCME constitution.

This year’s AFSCME convention holds particular importance due to the announced retirement of AFSCME president Lee Saunders so delegates will also be voting on who will be AFSCME’s International President, Secretary-Treasurer, and several Vice Presidents. 

We are asking you to nominate yourself or a fellow member to attend the convention. Room, board and transportation will be paid for but you will have to use your personal vacation time to attend.

Please send your nominations by 6 p.m. June 18th where we will hold an election if there are more than 4 nominations.
